Techne System for Foundational Skills

Techne helps you develop the skills to achieve your potential—as an individual and as part of communities.

This free, open educational program teaches skills such as critical thinking, emotion management, communication, psychology, systems thinking, and more. It’s designed for anyone who wants to understand themselves better, overcome barriers, and create positive change in their life and community.

What Makes Techne Different

Free and open to everyone. No paywalls, no gatekeeping. All materials are available to anyone who wants to learn.

Practical and actionable. Every topic includes step-by-step guides and practice exercises you can use immediately in your daily life.

Built on solid foundations. The program is structured in three levels, each building on the previous one. You learn the basics before tackling complexity.

Skills that work together. Topics reinforce each other—critical thinking improves communication, psychology enhances emotion management, and everything connects.

Designed for Different Learning Styles.

  • Choose Your Depth. Each topic has several levels of depth. You don’t need to master everything—focus on what matters most to you.

  • Flexible Topic Order For the most part, you can learn the topics in whatever order interests you.

  • No Time Requirements Learn at your own pace.

  • Solo or together. Learn independently or find study partners and groups. Practice exercises include both individual and collaborative options.

Always improving. This program evolves through feedback and contributions from learners and experts. You can help make it better.

The Three-Level Structure

Level 1: Human Potential (6 topics)
Understand what people are capable of and what holds them back. Explore internal and external barriers and discover that change is possible.

Level 2: Skills for Overcoming Barriers (10 topics) This level gives you the skills and knowledge to help overcome the barriers you learned about in Level 1 on a personal level. Examples include Critical Thinking, Emotion Management, and Communication Skills.

Level 3: Systems & Community Change (7 topics)
Apply what you’ve learned to improve groups, organizations, and society through Systems Thinking, Organizational Intelligence, Community Growth Strategies, and more.

Current Status

Version 0.4 — All three levels complete at Bare Essentials depth (23 topics total), all level 1 topics complete to Intermediate depth.

This is an alpha-stage release for early testing and feedback. We’d love for you to try it out and let us know what you think. However there may be some errors, typos, and broken links.

Intermediate and Advanced materials are in development. The program is fully usable now and will continue expanding.
