Why This License?

We chose CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 for specific reasons during Techne’s early development:

Protecting Quality and Integrity

During this vulnerable early phase, we want to ensure that the material maintains its quality and coherence. Allowing unrestricted derivatives could lead to fragmented or distorted versions before the core methodology is fully established.

Preventing Commercial Exploitation

Techne is built on the principle that foundational education should be free and accessible to everyone. This license prevents others from taking this material and selling it for profit.

Enabling Quality-Controlled Contributions

Rather than allowing anyone to create their own versions, we use an open contribution model with vetting (similar to open-source software). You can suggest improvements, contribute content, and help make Techne better—through a process that maintains quality and consistency.

Future Plans

This license may become less restrictive in the future. Once the community is established and quality vetting systems are mature, we may transition to:

The goal is to eventually open the materials further while maintaining quality through community stewardship.
